Vikings Split Series vs LTU

Posted by Brendan McCann on Oct 04 2015 at 05:00PM PDT

This past weekend the Cleveland State Vikings went back to Michigan for the second time in as many weeks for two games.  This time, the Vikes took on Lawrence Tech University (White) Friday Oct. 2nd and Saturday Oct. 3rd.

On Friday, CSU had a disappointing start to the weekend as the puck didn't seem to bounce their way.  LTU was all over the Vikings and gave freshman goaltender Kyle Seaman a tough night.  The Cleveland State offense was unable to give Seaman any goal support as the Vikings were shutout 6-0.  Seaman registered 23 saves on 29 shots.

Game two on Saturday night went a lot better for the Vikings.   Kyle Suts scored 2 minutes into the first period off an assist from Mike Fuchs to give CSU the lead.  The quick start gave them an early advantage in the game but it stayed tight throughout the night.  With the score at 3-2 halfway through the third, Mark Sharpnack gave the Vikings a much needed two goal lead after he scored an unassisted goal.  This goal would prove to be the game winner as LTU scored late, but was unable to tie the game.  The Vikings got their first win of the year as the game ended 5-4.  Other goals were scored by Spencer Martineau (Petey Dragnic), Jimmy Wallette (Eric Novakovic, Nate Wilkie), and Nikita Goldman (Greg Kacsmarik).  Kyle Seaman earned his first collegiate win registering 33 saves on 37 shots.

This upcoming weekend CSU hockey will stay on the road as they take on Otterbein University for two games.  They will be playing Friday Oct. 9th at 8:30PM and Saturday Oct. 10 at 8:00PM.  Both games will be played at Chiller North ice rink in Lewis Center, Ohio.
